State Park field trip

Today we went on our first official field trip for the school year.  It was to our local state park.  We learned all about our state's natural resources and biodiversity.  We learned a lot about our local birds and rocks.  The kids had a great time.

We hiked up the trail to see the various types of owls, vultures and red-tailed hawks that they are rehabilitating-

After the hike she talked about the various types of birds found in our state and their sounds.

Then our guide got out her rock collection and showed us the different types and their uses.  She explained how our state gets variety in plant life from the variety of rock in the ground below.

After the talks we headed down by the lake to have a picnic.  The children had fun feeding the turtles and running around.

After the picnic we went to the wildlife rehabilitation center.  We saw all the birds they have and got introduced to this one-eyed baby owl.  So precious.

On the way out we went by the petting zoo.  Did you know that Jerusalem donkeys have a cross on their back?  I didn't- that was fun to see.

Tucker going to see the peacocks-

Of course Sissy loved the pony!

A sweet day spent with my favorite people.
