Homeschooling, this and that

I used to write about homeschooling all the time on this blog.  We are still doing it, and I still love the lifestyle, even though the novelty has worn off a bit.  Baby girl is pretty good about keeping herself entertained when we are working.  This week as I worked on grammar with Julia, little punkin played in her tot bloc and looked out the window.

Julia uses Grammar for the Well Trained Mind for Grammar, and she uses the Lost Tools of Writing with her writing tutor for writing.  I am not afraid to outsource certain subjects for certain children.  We all have to find out what works for our family.  :)

I took a picture of Tucker in one of our "classroom reading nooks", a.k.a. Mommy's bed.  :)  P.S. We have almost all of these "Childhood of Famous Americans" and I love them.  I got them all at the second hand store!  Tucker was so cute- he has a running commentary as he reads.  "Oh- he had coffee cake for breakfast....that sounds nice."

Charlie's godmother got him the first three books of the "Chime Travelers" and he is reading those right now.  They are essentially Catholic "Magic Tree House" books and the time-traveling adventurers learn about a saint.

We finished The Door in the Wall by Margaret de Angeli.  I LOVED it!   It's about a medieval boy overcoming a handicap.  He was told that when you come to a wall in your life if you walk long enough you God will provide a door.

I am rereading all the New Jr. Classics to the boys starting with book one.  When I call them, Charlie says, "Oh!  Are we reading our fairy tales?"  They love them.

We are using The Story of Civilization: Volume 3 for history.  We read the book, watch the video lecture and then read ancillary reading that goes along.    We usually talk about it at dinner with Daddy who always has information to add.

On Saturday, Marc had three lacrosse games and Tucker and Charlie both had basketball games.  This won't last forever- we only have two more weeks of basketball.  I hated to miss Marc's games- he actually got to play in them!  He figured he'd be on the bench as a freshman.

Isn't is amazing how a baby's stuff takes over the whole house!  But she really LOVES toys.  She is so happy rolling around on the blanket.  And she pulls herself up on her knees by the toy bin and pulls toys out.

We had a treat and went to the science center for hours on Friday.  Annie wore a bow- she usually wears bonnets, but this was pretty cute!

Friends of ours had a trip out of town and asked us to keep their 7-year-old boy for a few days.  We had a great time.   He and Charlie are big buddies.

Sweet Annie is crawling!  She crawled some the day she turned 7 months old and now she's on her way.  She goes a little further every day.

Almost every Sunday Anastasia falls asleep during most of Mass.  She likes to have a stuffed animal on her face when she sleeps (just like Marky did as a baby).  So this is what people see.  :)

There is Mommy's sweet angel!

Is that not the precious-ist, roundest, sweetest wittle face?   I love this baby girl!  She is all sweetness!

This and that

While getting pictures off the phone I realized that almost every picture is Anastasia or somebody holding Anastasia.  :)  We love our happy, happy baby.  She is just a delight!!

She loves all her brothers and her sister-

How big is the baby?  Soooooooo big!!!!!

Julia and Marc attend a great co-op.  Julia is taking General Science with a wonderful teacher (all the teachers have degrees in the subject they teach).  She did many experiements in the fall and her teacher sent me pictures of them. They were learning about density (panning for gold and floating eggs in saltwater), amber/fossils, casts/molds, sedimentation, petrified logs (which will not burn), pulley systems, levers, the scientific method and DNA.

Marc is playing Lacrosse for our local high school.  It is a HUGE school- it looks like a college to me.  I was blown away going to practice in the fancy stadium and how organized and intense it is.  It's hard, but I think he can handle the challenge.

We had another great basketball day on Saturday- Charlie gets so excited he practically bounces down the court-

And here are a few Sunday pics-

Polka dot shoes.  :)

And I just finished reading my first Gothic Romance Novel- Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier.  I enjoyed it-
