On Saturday we were worn out and wanted to take it a little easy, so we decided we would take a boat ride over to Greenwich, England. It's a beautiful, green parklike place that we really enjoyed.
At Greenwich is the Old Royal Navy College, which is beautiful in itself and has a famous Painted Hall. But we wanted to see it because it was the site of the final battle in Thor: Dark World. :)
This is NOT the painted hall, but another lovely space.
We then toured the Cutty Sark, which was the fastest ship in the WORLD in the 1870s. It was really neat-
They have the cutest shops and restaurants. We had a wonderful pizza lunch-
Then we walked up the giant green lawn to the Royal Observatory. Greenwich is famous for being the location of the Prime Meridian- 0 degrees longitude and it's where we get Greenwich Mean Time. Our little astronomers loved seeing all that!
This is William Herschel's telescope- the one that found Uranus!
In this picture the children have one foot in the Western Hemisphere and one foot in the Eastern Hemisphere!
It was such a pleasant day in the fresh air. We took the boat ride back to London and then went to see Leadenhall Market where part of Harry Potter was filmed. It's when Hagrid is taking Harry to Diagon Alley.
Grace Church Street! Where Elizabeth Bennett's Aunt Gardner lives! :)
I wanted to see Liberty London- I love their fabric. This is a 6 story Tudor department store that opened in 1857!
We ended the evening by walking the gorgeous, wild Kensington Gardens by Kensington Palace.
