Walking in Memphis

Both Shana and Shelley (my college roommates) have birthdays in the next few weeks.  We have been saying for 8 years we should meet Shelley in Memphis one day because it's sort of 1/2 way between us (she lives in Arkansas).  This year we finally did it and had a quick one-night trip to Memphis on Friday/Saturday to celebrate these sweet friends.

On Friday, Shana and I headed out early.  My sides were literally hurting from laughing so hard on our drive!

Our first stop for lunch was Hog and Hominy, which had come highly recommended.

Then we made our way to the pyramid and Big Cypress Lodge!

It is gorgeous inside!  It's a giant Bass Pro Shops with two restaurants, a spa, tons of activities.

The hotel overlooks the store with these cute log cabin screened-in porches!

Our room was so cool- it had a gas fireplace and tons of personality.

The view from our balcony!

After quickly unloading our bags we headed out.  Shelley had made us pedicure appointments at The Nail Bar on Mud Island, which is a cute little place like Seaside, and it's just minutes from the pyramid.

I will say it rained both days so my hair got bigger and bigger as the day went on.... :)  Any more fluff and I would be mistaken for Diana Ross...

After pedicures we were off to Graceland!  We watched a moving tribute and cracked up as we walked around.

After Graceland we came home and rode the "tallest free-standing elevator in America" to the top of the pyramid where there is a lovely bar and restaurant and beautiful balconies to view Memphis and Mississippi River.    It was a little harrowing going up the 28 stories.

After a dessert at the roof-top restaurant we went back to the room and relaxed.  We were all exhausted.  We talked and talked and laughed- it was wonderful!  Shelley made us 8:00 reservations at South of Beale so we went there for dinner.

After that we just came home and sat on our rocking chairs on the screened porch and watched the shoppers shop while we talked and laughed some more.  :)

We were able to SLEEP IN the next day.  We started out by shopping at Bass Pro- they had some great things.  I bought a rain coat because it was way colder than any of us had anticipated and it was super rainy.  Then we made our way to brunch at the Majestic.  Unfortunately you needed reservations and we had to move along.   We walked to the top of Beale Street and ate at Miss Polly's.  :)

We were really in the "land of the Delta Blues, in the middle of the pouring rain..."

There was a car show going on at the same time-

After lunch we looked in one store on Beale and then we drove out to IKEA, which Shelley and I had never seen before.  It was something else- it makes me want to organize my home!  The prices are awesome.  Shana is the selfie queen.

After IKEA we went to see Rhodes College, which was just gorgeous!  Every building there is beautiful.

The art museum was right around the corner so we stopped in and saw their gorgeous collection!

They had a lady by Rubens-

I loved this sweet, little lady.

We all decided this was our favorite-

The day was ending and we needed to get on the road so we had an early dinner at Terrace on Mud Island- it overlooks the river.

Thanks girls, for a hilarious time!   We may have waited 10 years to have a girl's day out, but it was worth it!
