Rock City and Battles of Chattanooga

On Monday, Labor Day, we drove through Chattanooga on our way home from Virginia.  We decided to stop and "See Rock City"!  It was wonderful!  We walked all through the "Enchanted Trail".

The world famous "Lover's Leap" atop Lookout Mountain-

At Lover's Leap there is a lot to do besides walk around- they have a gift shop, activities for children, a café, a grill, and several other food vendors.  They had live music playing- we could have stayed a long time if we had the time.

We had lunch at the "Big Rock Grill" by the entrance.

Then we drove across the mountain a little way to the Battles for Chattanooga museum.

The main attraction is this 3D electronic battle map that lights up as the screens and narrator tell the story of the Civil War battles that occurred in the area- specifically the Battle for Lookout Mountain (also known as the Battle Above the Clouds) and the Battle to take Missionary Ridge.

After looking around the museum and gift shop we walked next door for ice cream.

The U.S. Park service has a little welcome center that had interesting information on the battles as well.

After a long, fun day it was time to head home.  I drove, Daddy worked and Marc Jr. did his Algebra homework.  He's taking an Algebra class on Tuesdays and Thursdays at a co-op and has homework that doesn't stop for a family trip.  :)

We had a nice drive home.  Tucker, as usual, made state signs and put them up every time we crossed a state border.   I love traveling with my little crew.
