Marc's Rome Adventure- Part 1
Yes, we sent our little baby boy to Rome without us. He is doing an amazing study abroad program for 3 weeks this summer with 20 boys from around the country. In the morning they have Mass at St. Peter's and then have a PhD teach them Church History and Latin with occasional guest speakers from the Vatican. Then in the afternoon they go SEE IN PERSON what they learned all about. They also do a lot of boyish things like swimming, hiking, soccer, white-water rafting, and ultimate frisbee. He got there Saturday morning after flying all day Friday, and he is having a wonderful time. We miss him like crazy.
He has sent us just a few pictures. On Saturday when they arrived they got set up and then had a tour of the area around their guest house. They are right on Vatican square in all the action and learned all about the architecture of St. Peter's Square as well as all about the Swiss Guard. They had orientation back at the classroom and learned all about what to expect these next three weeks. They went to a nice dinner out (apparently Marky ate veal tongue and liked it?!) and a dessert of tiramisu. And then the jet-lagged boys went to bed early. :)
On Sunday they woke up and had breakfast at their guest house (they have it there every day) and then walked over to Mass at St. Peter's. After Mass they had a tour of St. Peter's and even went to the very top of the dome and saw the whole city of Rome. Then they prayed the Angelus at Pope Francis's Sunday audience. After lunch at a restaurant they put on gym clothes and walked up the big hill to the North American College- the seminary for North Americans studying in Rome. There they played ultimate frisbee and soccer with the seminarians, which apparently was VERY fun! They walked home and got cleaned up and had a nice dinner out. Then they went out for gelato. He called us as he was getting ready for bed and seemed exhausted, but very happy. He is having a great time and learning so much.

Meanwhile back at home, we all miss him. Tucker even made a little "Marky face" and taped it to Marc's chair in the kitchen. This morning he had an empty bowl and spoon by it and said, "Marky is having cereal." He ate supper with us last night. :)
When I sent him these pictures yesterday all he wrote back was, "I miss you." We miss you too, buddy! Here is our "last supper" on Thursday evening. He wanted to go to Chipotle so we did.
I'm so thrilled for this opportunity for Marc. We pray God uses this time to grow him in wisdom and stature, in favor with God and man.
