This week had a lot of Feast days. On September 28, we celebrated the feast day of St. Wenceslas (as in "Good King Wenceslas"), who happens to be a family favorite. Daddy and Marky went to his church in the Czech Republic, and Daddy sings his song every day when he gets home from work. :) We keep his statue in the living room.
On September 29th was the Feast of St. Michael the Archangel, or Michaelmas! Per our tradition, we put cocktail swords in devil's food cupcakes. A sweet friend even brought me a gluten free cupcake- so thoughtful. She also brought me Michaelmas Daises-
Great angel books include: A Book of Angels, Saints and Angels, and The Angels: God's Messengers and our Helpers.

On September 30 we celebrated the feast day of St. Jerome! He translated the Bible into Latin (the Vulgate) and there is a legend about him helping a Lion, who thereafter became his pet.

They like to color while I read from all our saint books. You learn something different from each one- they all have their own angle.
Speaking of coloring and crafting- Tucker is on a roll. Early last week I took him to Michael's and said, "Let's get everything you are going to need to craft with this fall." He lit up like a lamp! "Oh! I will need white pipe cleaner, colored pipe cleaner, corks, Styrofoam, fuzzy balls, popsicle sticks, foam letters, tape, ...." the list went on and on. For just this one time I got him everything he wanted and we came home and put it all away in the art cart. He is the happiest boy.
Also, the other day at 2nd and Charles he saw a crafting book about space crafts. He talked me into getting it and the whole ride home he said, "Oh, Thank you, Mommy! This is the best day ever! Oh Mommy- thank you so much!" You see- he is so effervescent and grateful that I enjoy doing things for him.
Here is the man in the moon with a balloon lantern. We sing,
"The Man in the Moon came down too soon,
And he asked which way to Norwich,
He went by the South and burned his mouth,
While supping cold peas porridge."
Our solar system-
The Earth with a red push pin for where we are. :)
"When I grow up I will work in Astronomy!"
These two are great buddies. Looking at them is a little bit of before and after. :)
Marc finished up his science center physics class this week. They learned a lot and he made a trebuchet and roller coaster by himself. He's also taking physics at our co-op and it appears to be sinking in a bit.
Sissy usually rides the first hour of lessons and then gives her horse to another girl to ride for the second. She's been sad she wasn't able to wash the horse and put it away. On Tuesday she got to put him away by herself, and she was thrilled. This girl could sit and talk to horses all day long.
On Friday we had to take sweet Sissy to the orthopedist because she's been having heel pain for months. She was diagnosed with inflammation in the growth plate on her foot, but we are so grateful she doesn't have to wear a boot or stop riding her horses. It's manageable.
And we do try to slip out and meet Shana and Victoria for lunch when we can!
As a quick aside, we taught the children how to play "Clue" tonight after supper. It was one of my favorite games around 4th and 5th grade. If you don't know- they have TOTALLY changed it all! The characters are just "Plum", "Scarlet", "Mustard", with pictures of teenagers is those colors. What? The board game has a bunch less squares between rooms- there is NO conservatory and you can go outside. I miss this- it did NOT need updating!
And on another nostalgic note we finally let the older children see "The Princess Bride." And just as I thought- they LOVED it. Daddy had a few specially-timed coughing jags to cover up the five or so words/lines we wanted to avoid. :) Now Tucker says "Inconceivable!" all the time.
