Today we had our Little Flowers club. We started as always learning about the life of a saint. This time we learned about
St. Lucy (or Santa Lucia). :) The girls colored a picture of her while a mom read about her life from
this book. We talked about how St. Lucy loved God above all things, and God loved her. St. Lucy was born to a noble Greek family in Sicily in the late 200s. She consecrated her life to God and told her fiance she would not marry him. In a fit of greed (for her dowry) and rage he had her arrested and tortured to renounce her faith. When she was being captured to be taken to a a life of prostitution she could not be moved. They brought a team of bulls to tie to her and drag her through the street, but the ropes broke. She could not be moved. Then they tried to burn her and she lived. Finally they put a sword through her throat and she went straight to heaven. Her feast day is December 13, and on
St. Lucy's Day in Sweden little girls where a crown of candles and serve breakfast to their families to remember this saint of Light.
Then we talked about loyalty and what it means to be loyal. We used the story of the Good Shepherd in the Bible. The sheep follow their Shepherd wherever He goes because they are loyal to him. They know His voice. They trust Him. They can trust Him because the Good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep. He seeks out even just one lost sheep. When a Shepherd loves you so much you have to be a loyal sheep.
Then another mother and daughter who had just returned from a trip from France brought the girls St. Therese, the Little Flower, medals from the
Basilica. She also brought the girls homemade
sacrifice beads and told them how St. Therese used them and encouraged our girls to use them as well.
Then we learned worked our album pages while listening to our memory verse song.
After snacks the girls played for a bit. It was a sweet day with some precious girls.
