St. Nicholas' Day, et al

Sunday was the first Sunday of Advent.  Sunday evening we went to vespers where 22 monks from St. Bernard Abbey came and led us along with the Cathedral choir- it was heavenly!  We came home and lit our advent wreath.

I haven't gotten the greenery for the wreath yet- she'll look better soon!

Today is the feast day of St. Nicholas.

Good Saint Nicholas was a Bishop in the early 4th century- many miracles are associated with his holy and generous life.  He was even present at the Council of Nicaea and signed the Nicene Creed.  He fought against the Arian heresy and is rumored to have slapped Arius himself in the face!

He is known for his generosity to the poor and that is why we to this day give presents in his honor.  Last night for a treat I got the children some "St. Nicholas" pajamas-

We read some stories about St. Nicholas-

Our tradition is to get new slippers, a book and chocolate gold coins from St. Nicholas.  This year we threw in some Pez and a new family game.

We had strawberry Danish for breakfast-

We color this worksheet and watch this dvd-

Tucker and Charlie had their first basketball games this past Saturday.  It was so much fun.

I've had to do some Christmas shopping lately and taken the boys to the mall. They are so precious- just best friends!

 And they are big helpers!

We went ahead and got our tree the other night-

We haven't decorated it yet, but it's so nice to have the fresh tree smell in our home!

The other day at Cracker Barrel there was a place to write a letter to Santa.  We've never actually done that around here, so I was interested to see what they would put.  Btw, Plutoi, Charoni, Inner planetis, and mooni are a reference to celestial buddies- Tucker always adds an "I" to the end.

Julia's is tricky- a horse, dog, snowy Christmas, a baby?!  These are hard!

Violin, 5 sheepys, camera-
