That afternoon Marc took Julia and Landin to summer camp together. It was Landin's first overnight camp! I can't wait to pick them up today and hear how it went!
Meanwhile I helped host a baby shower for a dear friend expecting her first girl after three boys! I brought cream puffs and a friend gave me the idea of melting chocolate in a squeeze bottle and pouring it over the puffs for extra flare. :)
Sunday was the vigil for the Nativity of St. John the Baptist. It is an old Catholic custom to build a bonfire on this night. Our sweet friends hosted one and Father came to bless the fire....and visit with Annie Rosie.
Edible crickets and honey sticks! Eat like St. John the Baptist!
Lord God, almighty Father, the light that never fails and the source of all light, sanctify + this new fire, and grant that after the darkness of this life we may come unsullied to you who are light eternal; through Christ our Lord.
Charlie has been so good about understanding his limitations with his cast. I have taken the children to the pool several times when he could not go and he stayed home with no complaint. He still loves working puzzles and often times sits with one. The other day he said, "I want to challenge myself with a 1,000 piece puzzle. " Guess we will get to work on that. :)
Speaking of Annie, she is the sweetest sunshine when she wakes up from sleeping. We all LOVE going to get her because she inevitably sucks the air out of the room as she squeals with joy. :)
I wish I woke up this happy. :)
Marc is so helpful. The other day the he completely took the vacuum apart to repair it. He's done that so many times I think he might be a vacuum expert. I bought a new one for upstairs and he said, "this joint here is similar to the Dyson, but different- both have pros and cons." Okey dokey. :)
He is about to leave for a two-week Great Books summer program at a liberal arts college. We got the itinerary and he has to wear a shirt and tie for fourteen days. He has to wear them to class and also to dinner every single night. (They do get laundry service so I didn't have to buy 14 shirts!) I spent over an hour in the store trying to figure out shirt/tie combos and the best way to go about this. The sad thing is I know he's still growing and these shirts will be too small next year.
The other day a lady said, "So your son is taller than his father now?" And I said, "No...it may look that way, but he is only 6'3- we just measured him at the doctor's office in April- and big Marc is 6'4."
She said, "No- he's definitely taller," and I looked over and low and behold he has somehow grown over and inch and a 1/2 in 8 WEEKS! His knees have been killing him and now I know why! (We actually took him to an orthopedic surgeon before Navy crew camp to check on his knee pain.)
Our pediatrician says children are like plants and grow faster in the summer sunshine. He must be on to something.
Daddy took the bigger boys to work at the homeless shelter last night. A lady was shocked to see Tucker and said, "you look very comfortable here?" He said, "I have been coming here since I was five years old." He has- and he loves it.
We have a big weekend- our diocese is having a Eucharistic Congress, which is basically a conference on the Eucharist. Tonight there will be a candlelit Eucharistic procession from the civic center to the Cathedral. It's should be amazing.
