Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Today is the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, the day that St. Helena, the Emperor Constantine's mother,  found the Holy Cross in Jerusalem in the year 326.  Tucker reminded me that we haven't been properly celebrating the feast days lately and that he wanted a cross cake and coloring page.  Done and done.  :)

I made the most delicious cake and frosting from one of my very favorite bloggers, Auntie Leila.  It was totally worth the extra effort.  Marc was at Fraternus with Daddy, but the younger children loved helping me.  You really do bond over working together.

Thank goodness it called for three eggs- everybody got a chance to put one it.

Sissy is becoming so domestic- she loves to wear her little apron and piddle around the house straightening up.  It's a really adorable and rather new development.  :)

While it baked they colored St. Helena's picture while I read stories about finding the cross.  They were intrigued and loved it.

We read the one on the right earlier this year.  The other two we read for this feast day.

Yay!  The cake didn't stick to the pan!

By Tucker, Julia and Charlie.  :)

We began this day by attending Children's Holy Hour.  Julia was asked to read the gospel, and my shy little girl did a great job.

"We adore Thee, O Christ, and we praise Thee, because by Thy Holy Cross Thou hast redeemed the world."

Ave Crux, Spes Unica!

Hail to the Cross, our only Hope!
