Michael's Special Day

Today was perfect in so many ways- the weather was perfect and everything was at peace-
funeral 3

We went here to bury our sweet baby boy-
funeral 4

A holy place with holy people-

funeral 1

And a perfect statue to bury him in front of- so interesting that we saw the orginal just months ago- Simeon told her, "a sword will pierce your heart."

funeral 2

It just seemed perfect- yes, this is where Michael can rest in peace...

funeral 6

The babies were too little to know exactly what was going on-

But our big, strong boy knew exactly what was going on. And his heart was heavy, although he was strong for us.

funeral 8

It was time to process to the gravesite-

Tender Shepherd of the flock, Nathan Michael nows lies cradled in your love.....

In the midst of our pain and sorrow, we acknowledge You as Lord of the living and the dead and we search for our peace in your will. In these final moments we stand together in prayer, believing in your compassion and generous love. Deliver this child, Nathan Michael, out of death and grant him a place in your kingdom of peace. Comfort us with the hope that Michael lives with You and your Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, One God forever and ever.

Through the prayers of Mary, who grieved by the Cross of Her Son, grant your blessing upon Marc and Donna now. They entrust to your care a life conceived in love. Remove all anxiety from their minds and strengthen this love so that they may have peace in their hearts and home. We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. May his souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace. Amen.

And the sun shone through the clouds onto my precious angel's grave-

It's hard, but it's so peaceful and beautiful at the same time. We love you, Michael, but we also love that you will never sin and never hurt. Precious boy.

And so in the midst of missing you, we find GREAT peace and even joy-

P.S. Here's what Father read during the service:

My Lord, the baby is dead!

Why, my Lord—dare I ask why? It will not hear the whisper of the wind or see the beauty of its parents’ face—it will not see the beauty of Your creation or the flame of a sunrise. Why, my Lord?

“Why, My child—do you ask ‘why’? Well, I will tell you why.
You see, the child lives. Instead of the wind he hears the sound of angels singing before My throne. Instead of the beauty that passes he sees everlasting Beauty—he sees My face. He was created and lived a short time so the image of his parents imprinted on his face may stand before Me as their personal intercessor. He knows secrets of heaven unknown to men on earth. He laughs with a special joy that only the innocent possess. My ways are not the ways of man. I create for My Kingdom and each creature fills a place in that Kingdom that could not be filled by another. He was created for My joy and his parents’ merits. He has never seen pain or sin. He has never felt hunger or pain. I breathed a soul into a seed, made it grow and called it forth.”

I am humbled before you, my Lord, for questioning Your wisdom, goodness, and love. I speak as a fool—forgive me. I acknowledge Your sovereign rights over life and death. I thank You for the life that began for so short a time to enjoy so long an Eternity.
Written by Mother Angelica

Also- There are no words to thank the MANY people who have helped us, comforted us, and made all of this possible. Not the least of which, is Shana, the precious photographer who made sure I wouldn't forget this day.

And for those who are wondering, this was not a funeral- it was the Rite of Commital with Final Commendation for Nathan Michael along with a blessing for us.

My heavens, how beautiful. I look forward to visiting his resting place one day.
I remember how you sent that poem to me when we lost our first little one and it was such a comfort. "He hears the sounds of angel's wings...". Indeed.
Love you girl.

I'm glad it was such a beautiful day and that he has such a beautiful and peaceful resting place. And I love the poem at the end..and there is such grace in the fact that his only experience here on earth is in the safe womb of his loving mother.

Thank you for allowing us to be a small part of your day. Those pictures tell the perfect story of what you experienced at the funeral, even if your words hadn't been written. You have so much love and support surrounding you and continue to have the thoughts and prayers from all of us far away.

what a beautiful day. I am so glad you are peaceful, and we know Michael is beyond joyful! Through tears, it can only cause us all on earth to smile to know that he is hearing the angels singing. Love you and your sweet family, and will continue to pray for you!

Our hearts and prayers are with you, Ayers family. We think of your precious boy in the arms of our Savior and the surety and peace that his soul knows. Donna, may Christ have mercy on you and Marc and your family as you mourn with hope.

"For the Lord himself, with a cry of command, with the archangel’s call and with the sound of God’s trumpet, will descend from heaven, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive, who are left, will be caught up in the clouds together with them to meet the Lord in the air; and so we will be with the Lord for ever."
