Things I'm loving now....

I just want to give a shout out to some videos we are LOVING around here lately.  One set is the "Building Big" set by David Macaulay- they are these DVDs that explain how big things are made.  They are EXTREMELY well done- we've watched the skyscaper and dome one so far, but we bought the whole set, which includes Dams/Skyscapers/Domes/Bridges/Tunnels.   I have learned SO MUCH by watching them myself.  The dome one today started with the Pantheon and moved through time to famous domes and how they were improved upon all the way to the Georgia Dome!  :)

We also bought his ancient history series and LOVE that as well.    We have Castle, Cathedral, Mill Times, Roman City and Pyramid.  They are perfect for kids as they jump back and forth b/w the narrator walking in the ruins and explaining what you are looking at to a cartoon where they are acting out what life was like in that time.  The cartoon is done well and actually helps a lot.

I found out about David Macaulay because we have some of his excellent books.  I didn't know about his DVDs, but they are a great supplement to our history.  I also got some other DVDs I'm excited about, but I want to wait and watch them before I recommend them.
